Selecting the right equipment can make all the difference when it comes to the quality of your footage. Cameras offer a range of features and handle colour, sharpness, lighting, resolution and depth of field in different ways.
Most groups have started filming using their own mobile phone resulting in some varying footage quality, especially when coping with challenging conditions. Groups have struggled with low-level lighting, found pinpointing the focus point in the frame and ensuring steady. Some groups have decided to use a hand-held camera but does this ensure their footage is better.
Task: Today you need to evaluate the success of your technology choices. You are going to set up 3 test shots as part of your filming session.
Each group will need to film the same shot (you can choose your own shot), using two or three different recording devices. You need to present your findings in the same way as the image on this blog post, labelled with the name of the device plus a description of your own opinions about how it performs in terms of handling the following:
- colour
- sharpness
- lighting
- resolution
- depth of field
- overall quality of image
As part of the tests, you will need to make some change to your test shots.
- Film one test shot with your various cameras - record the conditions carefully
- Change one condition (for example, reduce the lighting) - record this change
- Film the same test shot with your various camera under the different conditions.
Just like the evaluation of your footage task, you will need to post your findings to your blog. You need to make an informed decision about the best camera device.
