Summer Holiday Homework

During your summer, you need to collect the footage you have planned to include in your music video. Planning is key. Ahead of your break, you must outline your intentions, fully storyboarding the key scenes or sequences that you want in your video and explaining how you intend to record the footage.

Tasks to do:
First draft website - Make sure you have the link to your website on your blog.

Original Photography - Publish a blog post evaluating your photo shoot and explain why you have chosen to include your chosen original images on your website. If you are yet to take your own images, you must get this done as a matter of urgency to complete your first draft website.

Storyboarding - Publish your storyboard electronically. You only need to include the key sequences but you need to explain your intentions and how the shots you have planned fit into your overall music video concept.

Plan out your film shoot:

location - you may want to do location photos ahead of your filming to see how the places may appear on camera. Do not worry if your setting doesn't look perfect. Remember, you can edit your footage to cut out any strange tourists in the background once you are working on editing. Think about the best time of day to film your shots. For example, filming when the sun is rising or setting will add drama and there will be fewer people to navigate around.

Actors - be clear about mise en scene. Style your actors and direct them to pose in the way you intended. Remember, to check your footage to make sure they appear as you wanted and there are no wardrobe issues or strange facial expressions that may ruin your footage. Think about hair, make up and costume carefully.

Filming - be prepared to take the same shots a number of times to give yourself plenty of footage to choose from. A good idea is to use more than one camera so you can collect twice as much footage, taken from different angles, or you can use one camera to film everything to allow you to edit back to a long shot whenever you need to. The more footage you have, the easier the editing process will be.

Technology - think carefully about what camera you are using, whether you have access to a Go Pro camera or drone or whether you intend to use a handheld camera or a mobile phone camera (check the quality of the image). You may have access to a tripod, but you can create the same effect by placing your camera on a fixed surface.
